The call to adventure
“The call to adventure signifies that destiny has summoned the hero.”
Be it per chance; by blunder; or miraculous circumstance. The call to adventure arrives all the same. Opportunity, as is so often said, only knocks once, and rarely at one’s convenience.
The adventure, believed to have been reserved for ‘the chosen one’, hangs in the balance. The question whether or not the heed such a call. Our societal beliefs demand us to acknowledge uniqueness. If not I, then who? This creates the illusion of choice.
Onward. ’Tis the only way.
There are others, given the chance, who wouldn’t hesitate. Some, perhaps, more deserving. Yet it is at your feet where this opportunity lay. So abandon thy guilt. Step through the door. Pick up the mantle. Cross the threshold.
“There is no security in following the call to adventure.”
Rid yourself of ambition. We don’t need it where we’re going. Risk, failure and pressure. A recipe for growth.
You want security? Refuse the call. Another will heed it in your place. Cast away what is old and unnecessary. Pack light. Leave your ego at home.
Into the unknown. Uncharted waters, riddled with monsters and storms. Don’t wait until you’re ready. You’ll never be ready.
“Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,”
Not all who refuse are lost. Perhaps a final call then. Now or never. One foot in front of the other. One obstacle at a time. Breathe it in. All of it. The good, the bad, the uncomfortable.
Succeed or fail. It matters not. Return as something new. A man reborn. A boon-bringer. Truly the discoverer of the magical, world-changing, elixir that exists within.
