Soft

Rebellious Repetition

I am soft. I am part of a soft generation. My words are often shallow, and more in hope of substance than actually so. Though all of this is less so now than what it used to be; a certain softness — requiring constant confrontation — remains.

Even still we find difficulties where none exist. We seek comfort in the thought that we are not the problem.

It’s not your program. It’s not your gym. It’s not your friends, or your colleagues. It’s you! You are soft, and you refuse to do what is necessary.

The words, hard and true, cut deep to the heart of the matter. Our concerns, our difficulties, our refusal to recognise softness are all ego driven.

Away with the empty words. Death to the unnecessary.

Growth…It comes for us all. Who we were is never who we are, even one day later. And progress is the requirement, whether we want it or not.

Develop a tolerance. Learn to endure. You think it difficult when it’s not. Your effort need not be commended. Your willingness to suffer is just that; completely voluntary. You are free to choose otherwise. We are only ever entitled to our labours, not the fruits of our labours. Do not choose to ‘suffer’ in the hope of recognition, or admiration. Chances are you’ve never truly suffered. Very few of us have. We suffer more in imagination than in reality.

Look in the mirror and question yourself. Hear the words, and put them to use. It is no easy thing but recognise softness, and change.

“There’s no room for softness… not in Sparta. No place for weakness. Only the hard and strong may call themselves Spartans. Only the hard, only the strong.”
